Leibovitz's media are specifically designed to grow cells in a CO2-free environment. The combination of free basic amino acids, phosphate buffers, and higher levels of galactose and sodium pyruvate replaces the sodium bicarbonate/CO2 system, so that the medium does not need to be supplemented with sodium bicarbonate and can be used in free gas exchange with the atmosphere.
Product Application
Leibovitz's media can be used to culture human tumor cells and embryonic cells, as well as established cell lines such as HeLa and Hep-2. This medium is frequently used in diagnostic virology, where a tissue cell line or strain needs to be grown in a closed system. Leibovitz's medium can alleviate the need for frequent fluid feeds.
